Find "Units consumed" (kWh) on your MSEDCL, Tata Power, Adani or BEST bill. For the most accurate result, use your average over the last 12 months.

3Electricity tariff

Rate per unit₹8

Use the energy charge printed on your bill. Most urban homes pay ₹7–₹10 per unit; if unsure, keep ₹8.

Methodology

How we calculate your estimate

Every figure is derived from published government benchmarks and conservative engineering assumptions.

System size

Your monthly units consumed divided by 120 units per kW per month, rounded to the nearest 0.5 kW and limited by your roof area where provided.

Generation

4 units per kW per day — about 1,460 units a year — before site-specific shading, soiling and monsoon effects.

Savings

Units saved are the units generated, capped at 90% of your yearly consumption, multiplied by your rate per unit. Fixed charges and some grid usage typically remain.

25-year outlook

Assumes 0.7% annual panel degradation with today's tariff held constant. Any tariff increase would raise your actual savings.

Cost and subsidy

Homes use the MNRE benchmark — ₹50,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹45,000 per kW thereafter — and the PM Surya Ghar subsidy schedule.

Carbon impact

Roughly 0.7 kg of CO₂ avoided per unit generated, in line with the Central Electricity Authority's grid average.

The MNRE benchmark is a government reference for the subsidy scheme, not a quotation from The Solarex. Your sanctioned load and DISCOM regulations may also limit system size.
